Council partners with local charity who offer life-saving defibrillators

Staffordshire County Council have teamed up with AEDdonate, a local charity dedicated to providing life-saving defibrillators and raising awareness about cardiac arrest.

The project aims to support the community with donations of furniture items dropped off at the Stone Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).  These items are then collected by AEDdonate, who sell them through their charity shop.  The funds raised then go towards the costs of installing defibrillators in public places and educating the community on their use.  Since the partnership launched, AEDdonate has successfully raised over £2,000 through the sale of donated furniture items.

The project is part of a wider council initiative to work with charities across the county to collect donations at the recycling centres.

Staffordshire County Councillor Simon Tagg, Cabinet Member for the Environment said: "We are thrilled to support AEDdonate in their vital work. “By donating furniture items that come into the Stone HWRC, we are not only reducing waste but also contributing to a cause that can save lives. This partnership shows our commitment to sustainability and community well-being."

Jamie Richards, CEO of AEDdonate, added: We are incredibly grateful for the support of Staffordshire County Council and the generosity of the local community. “This partnership not only helps us fund vital defibrillators but also raises awareness about the importance of accessible life-saving equipment.  Every item donated brings us one step closer to ensuring more public spaces are equipped to respond to cardiac emergencies.”

The partnership between the council and charity highlights the importance of community collaboration and resourcefulness.  By repurposing furniture items, both organisations are working towards a more sustainable future while supporting a critical cause.
