From the Staffordshire Smart Alert

Keeping your young riders safe at night

A noticeable and worrying practice by young bicycle riders is to be riding in darkness with no bright or reflective clothing, no helmet and no lights on the bike. Wearing black from head to toe means they are effectively invisible to other road users, which is very dangerous.

With the dark nights drawing in some younger children may be out on their bikes when it is dark. If you have children and or grandchildren please ensure that their bike has lights and bright or reflective clothing is worn, a helmet is essential as well. Keeping our  children and grandchildren safe with all the dangers that are around is a never ending battle. If we can act on this road safety advice, we can win this small part of that battle.
