How Can We Fix the Flaws in our Roadworks System?

This page was previously intended as an information page to provide accurate information about road works in our area.

Getting around town is an essential aspect of local life, and since every journey must pass through the town centre, any roadworks affect all vehicle users.

COGNEWS has tried to document these closures over the past few months, and you can find our reports on the site. The purpose of this page was to keep residents informed about upcoming roadworks so that everyone could plan their journeys accordingly. We began this effort back in August but have been unable to provide accurate reporting. This is because contractors don't follow the rules and don't play fair, sometimes even endangering the public. We've observed instances where roads were closed without being logged, or closures occurred at different times than specified. Most frustratingly, many of these closures, some of which involve traffic control like four-way traffic lights, could be sped up by days. It's frustrating and needs to change.

That's why we are inviting you, the road user, to share your experiences. We are seeking volunteers to champion the safe and fair management of our roads.

Our town urgently needs a few public-spirited residents to help ensure accuracy and fairness. Please contact Lori, our editor, for more information (07830 382219).

If you are planning an event which requires a road closure, please let us know and we will share it across our networks.
