Report from Painsley Catholic College:
The stunning Lake District provided the perfect setting for our students to challenge themselves, build friendships, and embrace the great outdoors.
Day 1: Outward Bound Adventure! Our journey with The Outward Bound Trust began in breath taking Ullswater. The snowy peaks, crisp air, and winter sun created an inspiring backdrop as students jumped straight into adventure mode. The day started with a jog through scenic lakeside trails, leading up to a brave plunge into the icy waters of Ullswater! Despite the chill, the exhilaration set the tone for the rest of the trip. The evening concluded with a magical night time walk under the stars—a perfect opportunity to reflect on the excitement ahead.
Day 2: Reaching New Heights! This day was all about resilience, teamwork, and personal triumphs. Students took on the challenge of climbing a waterfall, working together every step of the way. The reward? A breath taking panoramic view that made every ounce of effort worthwhile.
Afterwards, a warm shower and a comforting cup of tea never felt so well-earned. The night ended with a peaceful row across Ullswater, gliding under a sky full of stars—a truly magical moment that reinforced the importance of determination and mutual support.
Day 3: Row, Hike, and Unforgettable Moments! One of the most awe-inspiring moments of the trip occurred on Day 3, as students rowed across the lake and were treated to the incredible sight of four fighter jets soaring overhead. This unexpected spectacle left everyone in awe and added an extra layer of excitement to the day.
The adventure continued with a challenging hike up Heugh Scar Hill, culminating in a night of camping under the vast skies of Poole Bridge. The experience of sleeping under the stars was a true test of resilience and an unforgettable highlight for many.
A Journey Beyond the Outdoors
The Ullswater adventure was more than just an outdoor excursion—it was a transformative experience. Our Year 9 students displayed courage, camaraderie, and a willingness to push beyond their comfort zones. Their resilience, teamwork, and enthusiasm made us incredibly proud.
A huge well done to all involved! We can’t wait to see how these newfound skills and experiences shape the rest of the school year.
