Late last night, COGNEWS learned that the agenda item to discuss what provisions can be made to support our youngsters has been canceled. Community leaders, including local schools and church leaders, were looking to our Town Council to spearhead or join a steering group to set up the things our youngsters need to navigate local life (see the editor's letter below). With poverty levels and children's mental health at crisis levels, this is everyone's issue to solve. Not so, it seems, according to our Town Council. We will report developments as they unfold. Town Mayor and decision-maker Paulette Upton has so far not commented.
COGNEWS editor Lori Wood Williams would like to apologise to all those hoping to engage with the discussion who are now not able to do so and would remind readers that this is a public meeting and you are still allowed to attend if you wish to do so. Please get in touch with COGNEWS if you would like to be involved in this movement.
Letter from the Editor

Recently, we've been writing a bit about the lack of provision for our youngsters in the town. I'm pleased to report that next Monday, this important discussion will be heard at our town council. This will be part of the regular monthly meeting and is taking place next Monday (7th April) at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers on Leek Road.
In recent months, Cheadle has experienced an increase in anti-social behaviour by our young people. It's particularly worrying that some are very young. There is a move in our community to come together to see how our youngsters can be better supported, and to that end, we have brought this to the town council. Our hope is that a community steering group can be established, made up of different partners with one aim in mind: to provide targeted youth initiatives to improve the quality of life for Cheadle families and reduce anti-social behaviour.
Please share this information with anyone you think would like to come along, and if you or someone else would like to speak on the matter, this can be arranged by calling the clerk on 01538 754288 by tomorrow. We are not looking to discuss what is already available at the meeting, but if you are running something or are aware of something that the proposed committee could signpost to, that would be helpful.
Please come along and support our youngsters to have the things they deserve.
Kind Regards
Lori
